The Royal Pendletons "Oh Yeah, Baby" - An Intimate Session With America's Favorite Band 1998

The best way to have heard these guys was live (The Mermaid, anyone?), but without that you need this album. Anyone who is a grad student (or was one) will find true inspiration in the verve of Hot Rod Dissertation. As long as bands write songs like these, lo fi garage lives! - By Blinded by ScienceHaving seen their exciting live act in 1997, I took a chance and bought this recently from Amazon. I had never seen a band wear Burger King crowns before. Oh Yeah Baby showcases all their strengths as a talented garage band. The production by Alex Chilton (Box Tops, Big Star) gives it a very "live in-the-studio" feel. Their mastery of surf, frat-rock and sixties punk is just unbeatable, and the Farfisa organ sound is pleasing to the ears. They do it with originality and humor that makes other garage bands look like unimaginative posers. "Got To Pay the Chinaman" is a spine-tingling tune that will kick your butt all the way back to old Hong Kong. - amazontrax:
