"A Long Play With..." is the fab new release by THE FRANTIC V, the ultra hip garage kings of Greece, which also marks their 10th year anniversary in the garagedom! After numerous singles on various labels (from Australia to United Kingdom) plus a 10" mini album on the Italian Misty Lane Records, this is their first and brand new album! Expect nothing less than the best and most swinging 60's garage "shakers" to be heard nowadays. Swirling Farfisa organ, snotty vocals and jangles with tambourines is their trademark sound and this time they deliver another healthy dose for all of you garage hipsters! "Room 409" is the opening track and the party begins with this ultra-cool swinging instrumental with lots of surf references! Next to it, a series of tunes such as "She Lied", "Close Your Eyes", "I'm Asking Why" and "Good Lovin'" is part of the same swinging movie "soundtrack"! Both tracks "Girl Don't Play (With Me)" and "You're Gonna Be Mine" come from the band's early days and luckily we have the opportunity to enjoy them on vinyl! "Quinta" is a sax-orgasmic drenched mid-tempo instrumental, the most suitable titles track of a new porn movie!!! As far as "Hang Up" of the fabulous Wailers is concerned, it is about a killer low tempo 60's punk cover-version that will surely satisfy all the beatniks around! Last but not least, "It's Been So Long" is a folk punk gem that recalls all those forgotten teenagers of The New England scene back in the 60's as well as the ballads of the Swedish garage scene of the 80's/90's! Their first "Long Play" is by far their best effort and destined to be a timeless classic!!!

Maxine Brown recorded for the Scepter label's Wand subsidiary during the same period as the Shirelles, Chuck Jackson and Tommy Hunt -- which means that among the writer-producers she worked with were Carole King, Luther Dixon and Burt Bacharach. This album contains two complete albums and eight bonus tracks. The material on this Kent album is fine and the notes are good. (Amazon)trax:

I just completed a song and video commemorating the early days of Sun Studios. 1954 thru 1958. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins started their careers at Sun. I thought you and your readers might enjoy it. I would be honored if you would take a listen and would be even more honored if you posted it on your blog.
The Frantic Five where formed in June of 1994 (Thessaloniki-Greece) and they have never denied their obsession with the sound of the mid-sixties garage punk, rnb and euro beat. The spine of their sound consists of an explosive mixture of farfisa and fuzz and they manage to move smoothly between garage punk, groovy beat and melodic moody tunes. The band has a bunch of releases in various labels across the globe (Greece, Australia, Italy, UK, Germany) and has participated in numerous compilations.
The Frantic Five have been on stage countless times and they also have been touring outside the borders of Greece in countries such as Germany, Italy, UK and Turkey since 2003.
The Frantics where honored to open for bands such as the Sonics (2009), the Fuzztones (2001,2003), ? and The Mysterians (1999), Sky Saxon and The Seeds (2006), Fleshtones (2006), Sick Rose (2006) and others and they have also shared the stage with all the Greek rock n roll bands.

Old-time country compilations don't get any better than this dazzling 36-song double CD, made up of artists who are unrepresented (or barely represented) on CD, and genuine rarities by some who are well represented. The opening track, "Railroad Blues" by Sam McGee, heralds a brace of blues-based country songs by G.B. Grayson ("Omie Wise"), the Carolina Tarheels ("Peg and Awl"), Buster Carter and Preston Young ("Lazy Farmer Boy"), where black and white rural music meet and interweave inextricably -- Dick Justice's "Brownskin Blues" and Jimmie Tarlton's "Slow Wicked Blues" (with some gorgeous yodeling) are as good fine examples of blues as anything you'll hear on the Yazoo or Document labels, and there's not a Gene Autry blues number even present! Old-style blues and old-time banjo styles also link together in Buell Kazee's "Butcher Boy." The Williamson Brothers perform one of the earliest commercial recordings of "John Henry," entitled "Gonna Die With This Hammer in My Hand," and the Monroe Brothers and the Delmore Brothers are also present on this collection. It's also possible to hear records such as "The House Carpenter" by Clarence Ashley, which could easily have given Bob Dylan the direction to his early folk style (and I'm not willing to bet that he didn't know some of this stuff). Jimmie Rodgers is here ("Blue Yodel No. 8"), as is the Carter Family ("John Hardy," "Wildwood Flower"), but so is Tex Ritter in his ultra-rare 1935 recording of "Rye Whiskey, Rye Whiskey," the closest thing he had to a commercial success in that decade. The second disc does go further into performers who are remembered today, such as Milton Brown and His Brownies ("Hesitation Blues"), Patsy Montana ("I Wanna Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart"), Shelly Lee Alley and His Alley Cats ("Women, Women, Women"), Bob Wills ("Liza, Pull Down The Shades," "What's the Matter With the Mill"), and even one who's still around in 1997, Roy Rogers, on "Cowboy Night Herd Song." The sound is excellent, though the notes are a bit sketchy, given the sheer amount of material included here. (French import) (Bruce Eder, Allmusic)
