The Weary Kind
Last week, I saw the new film Crazy Heart about a washed-up country singer -- played by Jeff Bridges in an Oscar-worthy performance. As I said in that review (here), I was not previously a fan of country music -- but the movie's soundtrack is quite amazing -- and really moved me. In fact, it's enough to make me want to explore more music in the country rock subcategory.
Over the weekend, the original song for the movie --"The Weary Kind" -- won Golden Globe AND Critics' Choice Awards (music and lyrics by T Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham, who also appears in the film). With the two wins this weekend, this song has all the momentum as the Oscar race heats up (nominations are announced February 2). If you're not familiar with the song -- or Bingham -- take a look at this video below. The official and deluxe soundtracks for the movie both make their debut tomorrow; details here.
